Samsung Unveils New Versatile Smart Blu-ray Line

Dual PVR recording, full web-based content and services, stylish design

LAS VEGAS - January 10, 2012

Samsung Electronics Australia today announced several new features that will be available on Samsung’s new smart Blu-ray line, which includes Dual PVR recording, a full Web browser and a wealth of Web-based content and services through Samsung’s Smart Hub.*

“Samsung’s stylish Smart Blu-rays offer consumers greater connectivity options and access to a wealth of rich content options,” said Brad Wright, National Sales and Marketing Manager – AV at Samsung Electronics Australia. “The new Samsung Smart Blu-rays mean Australians can now for the first time access the web and enjoy their favourite content on devices like Smartphones, Tablets, PC, and Smart TVs.”

Blu-ray Features in a Sophisticated Form Factor

The units are designed as symmetric products with convenient centralised controls for easy access and management. The line-up’s lack of mechanical parts also makes for a smoother and quieter loading experience than its predecessor.

Consumers have an easy way to enhance and upgrade their current TV experience with the latest services and content options. The exceptional 3D Blu-ray line-up provides access to Samsung Smart Hub – a simple way to access, search and explore Samsung Apps**. They also have built-in Wi-Fi for convenient access to a variety of web-based content and connectivity options.

Sharing content across Samsung devices is made even easier with the new DLNA-certified Blu-ray line. The players will be supported by Wi-Fi Direct, which allows Samsung Wi-Fi devices to be connected directly and easily without a wireless access point.

The new 3D Blu-ray line’s powerful video processor can up-convert DVDs, older non-HD content and even low-resolution streaming video to pristine Full HD 1080p. It also supports an array of audio formats including Dolby Digital Plus / TrueHD and DTS-HD Bitstream Outputs. The Blu-ray players BD Wise Plus feature automatically adjusts the TV setting to provide optimal picture for each scenario.

3D Blu-ray with Dual HDMI Inputs

The slim and stylish Samsung BD-E6500 3D Blu-ray player delivers breathtaking 2D and 3D content playback. Two HDMI inputs streamline connections to the TV by allowing more than one component, such as a set-top box and game console, to be hooked up to BD-E6500 and connected to the TV via only one HDMI output. The BD-E6500 features a two-tone design that accentuates its slimness. The top of the player features an elegant piano-black finish, while the bottom has the look and feel of high-grade metal.

3D Blu-ray PVR with Dual Recording

The stylish Samsung 3D Blu-ray PVR players, BD-E8500 and BD8900, deliver breathtaking 2D and 3D content playback. New added features include Dual Recording, Full Web Browser, Smart View (2nd TV streaming to other devices such as Smartphone and Tablet) and Wi-Fi Direct. These powerful features coupled with upgraded AllShare DMS lets consumers push and pull content from a Smart TV to a Smartphone, PC or Tablet via the BD-HDD. The Samsung 3D Blu Ray PVR players consolidate and store all media onto one device via either the 500GB or 1TB in-built hard disk drive.
